Story: The story for Flowers tomorrow starts off with a
middle-aged man walking through the alleyways on to the street to visit his
wife with a bouquet of flowers in his hands to give to his wife. As he gets on
to the main roads he notices a young couple having an argument that turned ugly
and went verbally out of hand. The
argument is caused as a result of the guy being supposedly irresponsible with
his life while the girl is trying to get him to pull himself together, which
escalated out of hand when the guy told the girl to get knocked down. As the couple took opposite sides of the road
to get some space, the middle-aged husband confronts the boy over his actions
during the argument and begins attempting to save the relationship between the
boy and the girl.
The husband uses the flowers he bought for his wife as an
example of life and love between a couple which slowly encourages the boy to
make an attempt to talk to the girl he argued with. The husband proceeds to ask
what the boy and girl were arguing about, where the boy explains that the
argument was caused when the girl was telling him to get a job and to be more
responsible with his life. The husband then suggests to the boy to go and have
a talk to the girl. The boy however is hesitant as well as pessimistic about
his relationship after the argument and admits that he spoke “too much shit” to
the girl that he believes that his relationship is over. The middle-aged man
continues to encourage the boy and gives him the bouquet that was meant for his
wife and tells him to go to her and make it up to her. The boy rejects the
flowers saying that it’s for the man’s wife, which the man reassures that his
wife will understand and that he’ll tell her that he’d given the bouquet to the
boy. The boy accepts the flowers and
makes his way to the girl he fought with earlier where they both make up and
continue with their lives in peace. The middle-aged man proceeds to leave the
area and continues to visit his wife. It is revealed in the end that his wife
died and that the flowers were for this wife’s grave. The story ends when the
scene turns black and white.
Inspiration: Though this short film’s content has nothing in
relation to the style and genre of the idea for the project it inspired me on
the dialogue orient of the scene, as well as that one of the characters would
be a stranger. This story is a story of love when it hits a challenging and difficult
point and how it can be saved even though it may seem hopeless. In terms of
writing, the short film held a significant amount of dialogue, especially
between the man and the boy. The way the dialogue was made, gives the audience
the first person feeling that they have been or are in a similar situation as
to the couple in the short film giving the sense that they are in the short film
themselves. The way that the middle-aged man referred to life and love as that
of flowers in the dialogue gave an emotional and almost poetic feeling to the
short film.
